Childhood’s Favorite Creator Passed Away Yesterday

Sad news today, my friends. Clifford the Big Red Dog lost his creator yesterday, when Norman Bridwell passed away at age 86. Clifford has been a childhood favorite for many generations of kids, myself included, since 1963. Bridwell’s long loved dog is the mascot of Scholastic, and the mascot of many a childhood. Clifford celebrated his 50th birthday just last year.

Norman Bridwell discusses Clifford’s 50th anniversary, below:

Emily Elizabeth, T-Bone, and Cleo will not be alone for long, though. Bridwell was scheduled to release two new Clifford books in 2015: Clifford Goes to Kindergarten, and Clifford Celebrates Hanukkah. Kids of the future won’t be without everyone’s favorite big red dog! Not that that was ever really a risk, since there are well over 100 Clifford books in print.

Mr. Bridwell is definitely leaving some giant paws to be filled.
